Eric Ward is co-founder (with wife, Suzanne) and Director of Camp Idyllwild. Eric is rarely seen without at least one (or several) children, and is usually found outside working on one project or another around camp. Eric is a hands-on Camp Director, regularly leading many daily activities during the camp day.

Eric is a "Naturephile", loves the outdoors, and has undergone training as a naturalist through Owl's Hill Tennessee Naturalist Program. In addition Eric has participated in the Sky Ranger's Astronomy workshop through Astronomy From the Ground Up, is formally trained in technical tree climbing, and has undergone Camp Director training through the American Camp Association.

Eric and Suzanne are originally from California and have lived in Nashville for 14 years, where Eric received his PhD in Neuroscience from Vanderbilt and worked in scientific research, and Suzanne, a clinical pharmacist, earned her MBA from Vanderbilt and works in pharmaceutical R&D. A love for the outdoors, a desire to live sustainably, and a dream to start a summer camp that gives children the opportunity to get closer to nature drove the Wards from their life in the city to their peaceful creek-side residence on the grounds of Camp Idyllwild.

They can’t wait to share the experience of this magical and delightful place with you and your children this summer!
